Be Amazing Origin
Be Amazing started as a small idea of a fifth grade teacher as a way to help her students heal from the tragic events in Central Wisconsin on March 22, 2017. In a eulogy to her father, a brave young girl stated, "All of the amazing people will always outnumber the criminals." The local police chief then submitted an article to the local newspaper, which made a plea to the members of the community to go forward and "Be Amazing". These events inspired the teacher to do just that. She talked with her students about what it meant to "be amazing". One idea that stood out was helping those in need. The students worked diligently for 8 weeks to complete projects to help groups of people they viewed as in need of help. As word of these activities spread, more people became interested in developing ways for members of our community to do amazing things, and the "Be Amazing" group became a reality.
Be Amazing has made much growth since those early days in a fifth grade classroom. Not only are there Be Amazing clubs in several local schools, but there is now a 501c3 fund through the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin and an Advisory Group which works to manage it all. The members of the Advisory Group meet at least monthly. They have developed guidelines for running Be Amazing clubs. They have also worked with community leaders from the United Way, The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin, and the B.A. & Esther Greenheck Foundation to guide their decision making. A large focus of the Advisory Group has been working to organize community events such as the Be Amazing Fall Fest and the Be Amazing Dine Out, which have been successful fundraising events. In June, they held the Be Amazing Recognition event, to honor youth club members and local fund recipients for their positive efforts in the community. The Group is moving forward with more exciting plans directed toward positive change in the community.
